In brief: Ares appoints first ESG lead for real estate

Daren Moss joins Ares from the Brixmor Property Group – previously owned by Blackstone – where he was a VP for sustainability.

Ares Management has appointed Daren Moss as global ESG lead for the firm’s real estate group, a newly created role. Moss joins from Brixmor Property Group, a New York-listed real estate investment trust for retail properties, where he was a vice-president for environmental management, operations and sustainability. He reports to Adam Heltzer, Ares’ global head of ESG.

Ares has raised nearly $8 billion for its real estate strategies over the past five years, according to affiliate publication PERE’s 2021 ranking of private real estate managers. Brixmor was owned by Blackstone between 2011 and 2016.
