Why CEFC won Agri’s Sustainable Investor of the Year Award

Australian government-backed Clean Energy Finance Corporation has been exploring sustainable agriculture investments.

The Clean Energy Finance Corporation’s strategy expansion into sustainable agricultural and carbon credits has seen the investor win affiliate publication Agri Investor’s Sustainable Investor of the Year Award.

CEFC, a A$10 billion ($7.2 billion; €6.4 billion) vehicle investing on behalf of the Australian government, has focused on renewable energy, energy efficiency and low emissions technologies in Australia since its was established in 2012. But the investor significantly expanded its exposure to the agricultural sector last year: it invested A$50 million in Gunn Agri Partners’ Transforming Farming Platform, which seeks to scale sustainable agricultural practices by integrating row crops, grazing, carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation at underperforming farms, and has scope to generate carbon credits. CEFC also committed A$8 million to venture capital firm Tenacious Ventures’ first fund, which focuses on sustainable agriculture technology and food production.

The award was part of Agri Investor‘s annual process that recognises managers and investors for achievements in fundraising and deals.
