Data snapshot: Climate funds breaking boundaries

'Flexible investing' funds come in all shapes and sizes - but, as fund managers recognise the need to scale new solutions to mitigate climate change, almost every 'flexible' climate fund has a private equity component.

Climate fund managers have started pitching strategies in recent years that blend strategies or asset classes in pursuit of climate impact.

Such funds vary in their strategies: some GPs, such as Schroders and Commonfund, have brought broadly diversified funds to market. Others, such as Mirova and Hy24, have created minority sleeves for a riskier strategy within a largely infrastructure-focused fund. And some, such as Just Climate, are investing in asset types that are uncommon in traditional private equity funds.
