Data snapshot: EM impact market worth $95bn

There are 753 funds looking to deliver impact in frontier markets, according to Tameo.

The emerging markets impact market is now worth $95.3 billion, according to a report from Swiss impact consultancy Tameo.

Tameo surveyed 194 private funds managed by specialised impact managers with at least 50 percent of their assets allocated to private debt or private equity funds in order to compile the report. The consultancy estimates that, in total, the market comprises 385 managers and 753 funds, with an average fund size of $127 million.

Among private equity strategies, multisector strategies receive the most capital (36 percent), followed by specialist climate and energy vehicles (30 percent). Very little capital is allocated to funds targeting housing, water and communities (0.5 percent).

Most funds allocating to emerging markets do so with a specific geographical focus. The majority (58 percent) is dedicated to a single region, with the rest investing across multiple emerging markets geographies. Almost two-thirds of the funds (61 percent) direct their focus towards sub-Saharan Africa, either exclusively or as part of a broader mandate.
