In brief: AXA IM Alts chooses first global sustainability head

Laurent Lavergne will step into the newly-created position, having previously been head of asset management for the firm's real estate business.

AXA IM Alts has chosen its first global head of sustainability, according to a press release. Laurent Lavergne, who currently serves as global head of asset management for real estate, will assume the role in October 2023.

The new role will see Lavergne responsible for guiding sustainability strategy across all asset classes, which includes the firm’s impact investing programmes. Lavergne will also take over the duties of head of responsible investment Justin Travlos, who will depart the firm later this year.

Continuing the firm’s decarbonisation strategy will be a priority for Lavergne, per the release, with particular focus on real estate, natural capital and infrastructure. AXA IM Alts has raised $1.5 billion towards natural capital strategies in recent years. Last year, the firm collected $500 million from parent company AXA Group, with which it hopes to generate €100 million in verified carbon units.
