In brief: Former Actis fundraiser Neil Brown joins renewables manager Low Carbon

Neil Brown joined Actis in 2013 and led ‘$10bn in capital raisings during his tenure’.

Neil Brown, who led Actis’s fundraising for 10 years, has moved to renewables operator-turned-manager Low Carbon as head of capital formation. Brown “will support the company’s ongoing efforts to raise substantial capital to help accelerate the creation of large-scale renewable energy,” Low Carbon said. Low Carbon focuses on European markets.

Brown’s name will be familiar to impact investors: he was “responsible for leading $10 billion in capital raisings during his tenure” at Actis, Low Carbon said. This included the firm’s flagship energy infrastructure funds 4 and 5, which secured commitments from Alaska Permanent Fund and the pension funds for Texas Employees, Texas Teachers, Florida State, New York City Employees and Denmark’s Industriens Pension.

Brown joined Actis in 2013, towards the end of fundraising for the firm’s fourth and final buyout fund. Actis then wound up its private equity business to focus solely on energy infrastructure in emerging markets.
