In brief: PRI and iCI’s private debt guides

Borrowers and lenders may find useful tips and insights on incorporating ESG into direct lending and measuring greenhouse gas emissions.

Two new guides for private debt are worth your attention:

The PRI has published a market overview report for incorporating ESG into direct lending. It provides the results of a survey of private debt GPs and LPs and suggestions on how to improve ESG incorporation throughout the investment cycle. There are also quotes from LPs discussing their reporting expectations for GPs.

And Initiative Climat International (an association for private fund managers supported by the PRI) has released a greenhouse gas emissions measurement guide for borrowers and lenders. It breaks down the measurement process into five steps, sets out different methods, and compares the financial costs, resource intensity and quality of data for these methods. The guide was produced by iCI’s private credit working group.
