In brief: SS&C launches ESG reporting tool

The fund administrator joins a growing list of private markets stakeholders that own ESG data products.

Nasdaq-listed fund administrator SS&C has launched a tool to help investors measure and report on their ESG risk exposure.

SS&C’s offering leverages ESG data firm Sustainalytics’ dataset to quantify a fund’s ESG risks based on the fund structure, SS&C said in a statement. The tool can provide data for Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation compliance reports, the statement added.

As investors call for comparable ESG data, several private markets stakeholders are vying for dominance in the ESG data products market. KKR acquired ESG consultancy ERM earlier this year from Canadian pension funds OMERS PE and AIMCo. Blackstone bought Sphera, an ESG software provider, from private equity firm Genstar Capital for $1.4 billion earlier this year. Apex Group, another fund administrator, launched an ESG portal last year.

Meanwhile, many investors have developed their own ESG measurement tools and frameworks, such as Oregon’s state treasury and a coalition of UK pension funds.
