In brief: The Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation gets a new CIO

Former Octopus Ventures exec will lead the foundation's 'dual mandate' to drive financial returns and health impact.

The Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, a £1 billion ($1.2 billion; €1.1 billion) hospital endowment with an active impact investing programme, has hired a new CIO from Octopus Ventures, the VC arm of Octopus Group.

Emma Davies helped launch Octopus Future Generations Venture Capital Trust, an impact fund focused on health and social empowerment and environmental sustainability.

GSTF last year increased its target impact allocation to 10 percent of its total portfolio; it is seeking to invest approximately £25 million each year, and £100 million by 2026, into health-focused impact funds.

“The dual mandate the foundation sets for its endowment to drive financial returns and health impact is ambitious, and exciting,” said Davies in a press release. “It’s leading the way for foundations and mainstream investors in showing how we can all contribute to building a healthier society. I am looking forward to working with the foundation to realise this shared vision.”
