In brief: Triton hires head of sustainable investing

Ashim Paun will help the European manager integrate sustainability throughout the firm as it deploys three investment vehicles.

Triton Partners has hired Ashim Paun, an analyst specialising in ESG at HSBC Research Group, as its new head of sustainable investing.

Paun’s role at Triton will be to “focus on the acquisition of companies which are catalysed by sustainability themes and on capital raising for future funds”, the London-based firm said in a statement.

Paun developed prior expertise in ESG investing while serving as an analyst in this space at Newton Investment Management from 2011-14 and, until this year, was a managing director and global co-head of ESG at HSBC Global Research, specialising in climate change and energy transition-focused research, the statement said.

Triton, a pan-European mid-market private funds manager, is formalising its ESG policies and practices at a time when the firm is busy deploying its three latest investment vehicles. In 2018, the firm closed Triton V on €5.2 billion, its latest mid-market credit vehicle Triton Debt Opportunities II closed on €744 million last year and Triton Smaller Mid-Cap Fund II closed earlier in 2021 after collecting €815 million.
